A pier was built here at Rhos on Sea in the 1890’s. In those days, building piers was fashionable in many resorts along the North Wales coast. Piers served a practical purpose by stretching out away from the shore and into deep water. They were a place where large paddle steamers could dock to bring day trippers and holiday makers from places such as Liverpool. The pier here at Rhos on Sea was beset by problems caused by very poor planning. Firstly, no landing stage was built, so paddle steamers were unable to dock. Then it turned out that the pier had been built in the wrong place which made the pier illegal. This also meant that it was not possible to levy charges for paddle steamers to dock. Join me as I tell the full story of Rhos on Sea pier.
